I drew this summery scene of Joel and Michelle in the pool about six months ago, inked it and everything - and then, like a surprisingly high amount of drawings I deem DA-worthy, it got shuffled into my humongous archive and I didn't see it again for a while. I unearthed it the other day and decided to finally color it in. Seems weird to post a drawing so evocative of summer in the middle of December, but better late than never, I suppose!

I'm quite proud of Michelle's pose, for which I used photo reference to make her look like she's kicking a bit to stay at the bottom, and when I did do the coloring, I tried to make it look as real as possible. In real life, there's no real distinct line underwater where the surface of the water stops and the wall of the pool begins. So rather than making it a hard outline, I just tried to suggest it with a line of blue.

All in all, I'm really happy with how this turned out - and it's also one of the rare underwater drawings I've done that doesn't have any bubbles at all!

In my opinion, you are the Don Bluth for underwater artwork.

:) :) :)

I always thought Don Bluth was the Don Bluth of underwater artwork - the guy put underwater sequences in just about all of his movies, and they all look very impressive.

You did great with the poses! I like how you did her wavey hair effect!

It turned out really nicely! Those two definitely make an awesome couple.

On a side note, I know EXACTLY where you'd got that pose from, and is one of my all-time fave pics.:D

Thanks! I figured one of my fellow aquaphiles might recognize that pose! (That whole site is awesome - it's one of the first ones I found when I started searching for underwater content on the Internet ten years ago.)

Interesting new techniques here, JB, from both poses and water style. Man, does it make me miss summer though! *Goes to reheat hot water bottle*
